Razer Internship Open

Razer

Razer, one of the world’s pioneering supporters of e-Sports, is announcing the launch of an internship open to pro-gamers.

Given Razer’s history of hiring professional gamers, the program is built to give pro-gamers an insight into the industry they love, opening up career possibilities for those interested in working in the industry after completion of the internship. Intern positions will be available at any of the nine Razer offices around the globe but will be limited by the number of simultaneous positions at each location.

The departments that internships are available in are: product marketing, product development, community, e-Sports, events and public relations; some of which are already home to former professional gamers that will guide interns during their time at Razer. With a wide range of departments available, professional gamers can find an area of expertise that best suits their skills and interests.

The next professional gamer to take part in the program will be Team Razer’s very own Benedict ‘HyHy’ Lim Han Yong who plays for Zenith Gaming. Benedict is one of the world’s best Defence of the Ancients players and will be competing at the upcoming ‘International’ tournament in Seattle, USA. Benedict ‘HyHy’ Lim Han Yong’s internship will begin shortly after he has finished competing at the International.

“Professional gamers have the drive and discipline to aspire to be the best in their field of competition. These character traits transfer directly to the business world and I look forward to having them partake in internships in the near future.
- Min-Liang Tan, Chief Gamer & CEO, Razer.”

I know they can make obscene amounts of money and they're obviously good, and I've actually no problem with any of it, but the term 'pro gamers' always makes me chuckle.

So why is it so popular in the US and why are people chuffed if they get a internship, how do you pay the bills?

Foot in the door, I guess. Good if you're staying with folks and have no money related responsibilities. Better non-paid experience in an industry you're after when you're young than none at all.
