Well here we are, Grid 2 has actually been announced and the website www.theracereturns.com now forwards you to the new home of Grid 2, www.gridgame.com.
Unfortunately we'll have to wait another year before we can get our hands on the title and for our lans to echo of the sound of a transformer shouting "GRID 2"
GRID 2 will challenge players to be fast, be first and be famous as they enter a stunning new world of competitive motorsport. Following the success of GRID, which set new standards for damage, AI, visuals and introduced the Flashback time rewind feature - now adopted by many racing games -- GRID 2 will again raise the gameplay and technological bar for motorsport gaming and remain true to the series' core value -- it's all about the race. The Race Returns Summer 2013
In the mean time, here's some hardcore car pornography to drool over. Looks like we're going to see some interesting races in this sequel, we're itching to get our hands on that Ariel Atom :).
The team won't discuss tuning options, although there are hints that there will be some sort of upgrade system for cars. Could this tie into multiplayer perks?
They are turning Grid into COD
Dont play it online, have no chance of winning at lans
Translation, 95% of console gamers don't use it as they are to simple and cant handle having portions of there view blocked out.

We've heard a lot of your thoughts and opinions regarding the lack of cockpit view in GRID 2. To better explain our decision Executive Producer Clive Moody has this to say.
...Videogame development is always about trade-offs and in this case, taking the hard decision to lose the in-car views for 5% of our players (and remember we still have bonnet cam and bumper cam, which many people with racing wheels use), is something we felt was more beneficial to everyone. They are expensive to run due to the requirement for high-resolution interior textures which are seen close-up and require a considerable amount of in-game memory (to store) and processing (to render).
What this means in practice is that the benefit to our vehicle models, environment models and the hundreds of other things in the environment sapping memory, is huge. By making this educated call, we can use the extra available memory to make the on-track racing a truly mind-blowingly immersive experience.
For example, we can author and run higher resolution vehicle models with more detailed geometry. We can feature higher resolution external vehicle textures and work further detail into our environment textures. We can dedicate more processing power to our improved physics systems, integral to the GRID 2 experience, and push other systems to the next level, such as particles and real-time lighting. And there are many more benefits.
The more destruction derby the better
//EDIT
HAS to be laziness. That is utter horse-sh*t that 95% of people don't use it.

TLDR: Consoles!
Still for in car realistic racing (that your average joe can still play) Forza is still the win
