ASA find no Case for Hello Games to Answer

It's safe to say that No Man's Sky has seen something of a backlash since launch. With the game not quite delivering on what players had hoped, a number have been quite dissatisfied. That said, it's still riding high on the Steam sales charts since the latest update, so they can't be doing everything wrong?

Some good news has come for Hello Games in the form of an ASA ruling. The ASA are the Advertising Standards Authority, and their job is to ensure that advertising in the UK is fair and accurate. A complaint was made by a number of disgruntled players that the game's Steam page was inaccurate and constituted misleading advertising. The ASA however, have ruled that not to be the case.

The ruling comes after 23 complainants asked the agency to take a look at the Steam page and its associated trailers and screenshots. Having done so, they came to the conclusion that whilst players might not see those exact scenarios, they would see something similar, and expecting something identical in a procedurally generated game would not be reasonable.

We discussed this topic at length on our podcast, why not see what our presenters had to say about the matter? It's available on iTunes, through RSS, on YouTube or right here on GameGrin.
