Borderlands is Getting a Movie
It's been confirmed by Variety that Lionsgate, the company that brought us The Hunger Games movies and The Divergent Series, have acquired the rights to develop a movie based on the Borderlands franchise from Gearbox Software.
The movie is being produced by Avi and Ari Arad, whom have produced in the past Iron Man, The Spider-Man movies and are producers of the previously confirmed Uncharted movie.
No details have been released on plot, director or who is starring, but Lionsgate Co-Chairs Rob Friedman and Patrick Wachsberger did have this to say:
“The Borderlands games don’t pull any punches, and we’ll make the movie with the same in-your-face attitude that has made the series a blockbuster mega-franchise.”
Movies based on video-games haven't had the biggest success or luck in past years with only small few having mainstream success such as the Resident Evil movies and The Prince of Persia movie. Still it's better news than hearing that Uwe Boll has acquired the rights.
Let's hope they go R-rated for that extra Borderlands lunacy and style.
