China Lifts Ban On Videogame Consoles

China has officially lifted a 15-year old ban that prohibited the foreign and domestic manufacturing and distribution of videogame consoles.

The ban was originally put into place in 2000, over fears that videogames could potentially implicate the physical and mental state of children.

Last year, China eased regulations, allowing foreign companies to manufacture and distribute videogame consoles, but only within Shanghai's Free Trade Zone.

Both Sony and Microsoft have failed to replicate the success of their consoles in the Chinese market, but perhaps this news will result in an upturn of fortunes for the Japanese and American giants.
