Considering how successful the first film ended up being and his love for the source material it should come as no surprise that Joss Whedon will be returning to write and direct the sequel.
The announcement was made by Disney CEO Bob Iger during a conference call about Disney's quarterly earnings. He also revealed that Whedon is developing a live-action TV series set within the Marvel universe.
