Kickstarter game of note: Four Realms.

RPGs are hard to do unique twists on, this genre has been around for the longest of times. You usually have one or two choices when you make these kind of games. You do something that's already been done and hope your art, story or immersion is enough to carry the game.

You may also find a unique or somewhat outlandish mechanic that isnt used in a typical RPG for your game and hope it works. 

I think that Four Realms may very well have a unique mechanic that works for this game. Four Realms is a role playing platformer made by Delvin Mason.

Take the role of a Guardian, a heroic figure in the Four Realms world. As a guardian you must stop the Aether. Aether, the Chaos Magic, ravages the land and splits the four nations. It is your duty as the guardian to stop this.

You have multiple characters that you can play as each with a unique story. You build up your spells and abilities in the same fashion as a collectible card game, thus making a custom list of spells that you prefer. Each run also claims that it will be unique due to procedural generation.
