Kickstarter of Note: City of the Shroud

Many genres have been revitalized in the last few years of gaming. Whether through Kickstarter projects or talented developers, we now have a collection of quality games in the indie community. Abyssal Arts may very well make a new chapter in the tactical strategy game genre with City of the Shroud. The intriguing thing about this game is that it claims the episodes develop the community will help write the game's story.

While the complete details are not ready yet for exactly how this will work, this is an excerpt from the Kickstarter page:

City of the Shroud has a "community-driven story" - basically, your choices in the game influence the amount of power your chosen faction has. However, that balance of power is shared by all players, so this is also true for every other player in the game - if you do a quest for Navid, his influence goes up. But if someone else does a quest for Azura, her influence goes up.

We look at that shift in balance across the game world and write the next chapter of content based on those fluctuations. So it's sort of a like a big, democratic, D&D session, where you're the players and we're the dungeon master creating the story as we go.

The basic backdrop of the story is a group of different factions fighting against one another for their own goals. It will be interesting to see how many players rally to different factions. The combat in the game is set up to where you fight in both real time and in a grid based format. You use action points to decide where to move then you combine attacks with proper timing to pull off the most effective attacks.

For those who prefer hands on experiences, a game demo is available to download on the Kickstarter page. The page also contains examples of the games music and explanations of the developers choices. For those who wish to support the game you can find it here.
