Large Layoffs at Neopets

Large Layoffs at Neopets

Jellyneo, a Neopets help site run since the mid-00s, has received word that a large number of staff at Neopets have been laid off.

The only ones apparently still employed are a handful of programmers, and the help and support staff.

If this weren't worrying enough, it is also almost exactly one year after Neopets was purchased by Knowledge Adventure, makers of educational software such as JumpStart.

These layoffs appear to be the reason behind the lack of artwork on new items and no weekly news update, though we will have to wait to see what the future holds for Neopets without The Neopets Team.

Neopets has been in a steep decline for the past several years. It's pretty obvious that the site had been on life-support. Then, after Jumpstart purchased them, they relocated the servers, and made a bad situation even worse. Couple that with an almost non-responsive, aloof help desk "Thanks for writing! We're aware of your problem, and are working on a solution" was practically the only "communication" users ever received from tech support. And if you dared complain about the site while on the site, you risked having your account frozen, for "violating their TOS". Yet they still expected people to pay real money for their virtual currancy?
