Listen Carefully for the Whispers of the Old Gods, Coming to Hearthstone Soon

Blizzard’s digital card game Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft is getting another lore based expansion, this time based on the legendary old Gods. 134 new cards are set to grace the free-to-play title, featuring such big hitters as C’Thun, N’Zoth, Yogg Saron and Y’Shaarj. You might not be able to pronounce them all, but you’ll likely appreciate their awesome power as these behemoths are huge evil monsters, ready to rip your opponent’s cards to shreds.

Whispers of the Old Gods sees the world of Hearthstone turned upside down and inside out. Under the sway of the four Old Gods of Azeroth, familiar friends have been corrupted (and have sprouted a few extra eyeballs in the process), new monstrosities have appeared, and unrest spreads throughout the tavern with every turn. As the Old Gods and their crazed followers join you in battle, there’s no telling how much havoc you can wreak with their unique abilities and game-changing powers. By the same token, you’ll want to pay great attention to each play you make, for it could well be your last in this expansion.

The new cards will be available on Windows, iOS and Android and are winnable in the Arena mode, as well as purchasable in packs themselves. Starting on the 15th March and running up until the expansion’s release in late April/early May, pre-purchasing is available and players can buy a special bundle of 50 card packs for £34.99, netting themselves a unique themed card back in the process.

Open your first pack of the new expansion and you’ll get two bonus cards: the legendary C’Thun, and his loyal servant, Beckoner of Evil. It won’t even cost any money to do that if you want as those logging in to Hearthstone during a special promotional period (to be revealed at a later date) will also receive three Whispers of the Old Gods card packs free.

Whispers of the Old Gods brings with it the new Standard format—a format in Play mode that allows players to go head-to-head with decks built from only the most recently released Hearthstone cards, combined with a core foundation of the Basic and Classic cards. Following the launch of the expansion, special new quests will be available that will reward those who play ranked games in Standard mode with Whispers of the Old Gods card packs.
