Metal Gear Fan Remake Cancelled

Metal Gear Fan Remake Cancelled

Once in a while fans joined together to create something special and in this case a planned Metal Gear remake was in works; a remake of the original MSX title Metal Gear, a game that started the massively successful Konami franchise.

The remake was lead by a group of modders back in May 2014 on Moddb and their project was going well, it even received a blessing from Hideo Kojima but alas good things come to an end and the development team have announced that the project has been cancelled. The producer of the project explained:

“Unfortunately we can no longer go ahead with the project, it seems like the guys over at Konami couldn’t agree on a decision so had no choice but to shut us down. Even though it’s unfortunate, we’re thankful for all the help and support we’ve received from Konami, MGInformer, Kotaku etc. Especially the fans.”

The team were hard and even were posting jobs on the Moddb page for additional support from the community including Level Designer, Programmers, Artists as well as Voice Actors and Actresses, which I, myself even auditioned for.

Unofficial Metal Gear Remake

The project also got the attention of David Hayter who was on board to bring back Snake's iconic voice as well as well assisting with the script. Additionally professionals of the games industry were also involved in the project which included.

  • Adhem Belkhadra from Ubisoft (Gears of War, Just Dance, the Cursed Crusade, etc) working on the level mapping
  • Kaue Lemos from Insane Games (Earth Under Seige, Bubble Up, etc) working on sound effects.
  • Orion Acaba (Fire Emblem, Infamous series, etc) working on voice acting.
  • Paul Eiding (Roy Campbell voice) was on board for a cameo.

It is unfortunate when large-scale fan projects end in circumstances like this, all that remains is a rough-cut trailer featuring David Hayter and concept art on their moddb page. Lets hope one day it can be revitalised with help from Kojima Productions.
