No Single Player Campaign For Rainbow Six: Siege

No Single Player Campaign For Rainbow Six: Siege

If you were looking forward to enjoying Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six: Siege's single player story mode, we have some bad news for you, as Ubisoft have all but confirmed that there won't be one. This is what Art Director Scott Mitchell had to say at EGX 2015 (via. WhatCulture):

“There is no story mode per se. You go through training, where you get to experience different operators and their devices. You can play against enemy AI in co-op through all the maps. You can customise matches, so that’s what we’re offering on the single-player side of things... It’s a pretty good training ground, and on top or that you’re unlocking the same content as you would playing in PvP. You’re still gaining stars, renown points, and new operatives.”

You can still play the sieges on your own, just with bots. and the classic "Terrorist Hunt" will also be available to play offline. So there are still options if you're determined to play alone. But it's a team game; all of the gameplay they've shown has been of tight-knit teams, communicating and working in harmony. This is how the game has been marketed all along.

In a statement to Cinema Blend, after the above comments were released, Ubisoft have said that they have always been focussing on delivering a "compelling cooperative and multiplayer experience," and that they will detail the single player features at a later date.

rainbowsixsiegeSo it seems like Rainbow Six: Siege is pulling a Titanfall on us. But is that necessarily a bad thing? It seems to be a commonly held view that if a game has multiplayer, then it must have a single player. But why is that the case?

Nobody complained about the lack of online play when Skyrim came out, because it's a fantastic single player experience. If the multiplayer gameplay is solid enough, why can't that be the full game? People say that they have issues paying full price for multiplayer only, but it's hard to dispute that in FPS games, multiplayer keeps you playing for far longer than a campaign would. At least for the majority of players.

Are you still going to buy the game, or is this enough for you to cancel your pre-order? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below. Rainbow Six: Siege is set to launch on December 1st, for the PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

Well, definitely don't need to buy this, then.  I'm a solo gamer, and have no intention of playing without a storyline.

For me, it's one that won't be on my shopping list either. I get that multiplayer is the core of the game for most people so I totally understand the decision but I'm like Ace in that I want a storyline and something I can dip in and out of at will.

In the famous words of Simon Cowell; "It's a no from me".

And they still charge retail prices. I really hope this doesn't become a trend in future games. As much as I love multiplayer titles, I still want a single player experience with a story.
