PlayStation 4 Pro Reveal and Details

The PlayStation 4 Neo is real! Sorry, not the Neo it's actually the Pro. Yes, the PlayStation 4 Pro is Sony's brand new more beastly gaming machine set to hit stores this November.

Before we delve into things, let's start by saying that this is not a replacement to the current PlayStation 4. It is a complement to current PS4 console. What we have here is a higher-end machine available for those who want a premium experience and want to take advantage of its 4K capabilities, that's exactly the real reason for this upcoming console. The Pro is designed for 4K gaming and for those who want 4K video playback via streaming services such as Netflix or YouTube.

The PlayStation 4 Pro features a brand new design, a faster processor, and a more power graphics card. In terms of sheer graphics we're getting a GPU with 4.20 TFLOPS of performance, by comparison, the standard PS4 has 1.84 TFLOPS of performances, so it's practically double the performance.

So what does this mean? Well, with the power of the Pro you'll be able to experience 4K (4096×2160) console gaming and developers will be able to take advantage of the performance and create games, not just 4K resolution, but with much higher visual fidelity, as well as use HDR (High Dynamic Range) - Which relatively new to the TV world, HDR offers stronger, more vibrant colours than ever seen before, it's designed to offer true black and richer colours and hues, but it is only available on compatible TV's and isn't on every 4K TV out there.

This all sounds great for someone with a 4K TV, but what about those without one? Well, you'll be getting yourself a more powerful console, with the PS4 Pro, you too can take advantage of the additional performance in many previously and upcoming titles in 1080p, but the real focus is still 4K gaming.

What about all the current PS4 owners? Nothing, and that isn't to say go out and buy a Pro. No, you don't have too. Sony has designed the Pro to be part of the PlayStation 4 family. All upcoming games will still be coming to PS4, there will be no Pro exclusive titles whatsoever. Sony doesn't want to separate the community. Now, granted the Pro will get enhancements, but Sony have stated that none of these will affect gameplay only visuals, one such example is the reveal of Mass Effect: Andromeda, this will be arriving on PS4 and Pro, they'll be the same game, nothing will be changed about that. But on the Pro, however, it will be playable in 4K and feature graphical enhancements not available on the standard PS4. This will also be the same for multiplayer titles, their frame-rate will be identical between platforms, so no 30FPS against 60FPS players.

Essentially the PlayStation 4 Pro for those with 4K TV's and want to best in console visuals. It's the big buzz word in tech these days, so why not. Even previously released games will be upscaled to 4K and your Blu-rays will too. Unfortunately, and this is a big one:

The PS4 Pro doesn't feature a UHD (Ultra HD) Blu-ray drive.

The means as much as it's a machine for 4K gaming, it isn't for 4K Blu-ray movies, unlike the recently released Xbox One S. Its focus, just like the PS4, is gaming. You can still, however, get 4K video content from Netflix and YouTube.

Nonetheless, what we have here is only the start. Without a doubt, it's a powerhouse of a console and as of right now, is indeed the most powerful console to date. That's until Microsoft's Scorpio arrives next year, but all honesty, with these features, the PS4 Pro feels more like an answer to Microsoft's Xbox One S than their Scorpio. You never know, Sony may even release another even more powerful console to compete with that.

Finally, what about the price? The PS4 Pro arrives the 10th of November 2016 for £349.99. Which is the same price as the launch PS4 back in 2013. The system will also include a redesigned controller and a 1TB hard drive as standard.

1TB isn't going to be big enough, just like the normal PS4 has never had a decent sized hard drive...

Also, they clearly didn't think about the acronym. PS4P. Yeah, that's not going to be more confusing than Wii U...
