Razer announces Forge TV An Android games console

Android more recently has moved away from our smartphones and tablets to almost becoming tiny boxes connected to our TV's. Many companies have had their attempt at making the Android gaming console with success (take the Ouya for example), while others have pretty much accepted these boxes are for media streaming, videos and social with the occasional gaming; if a controller is available (such as Mad Catz's Mojo and Amazon's Fire TV).

Now, it appears that there is a new challenger from PC hardware and peripheral manufacture Razer, with their Forge TV. From the looks of it, it could be mistaken for another android media box, but Razer want's to take it one step further by moving PC gamers into living and have their PC games streamed directly to this little device. Pretty much Nvidia's GameStream for Android TV.

The software is called - Razer Cortex: Stream and while it is technically available separately for your PC and will work with any Android TV device, Razer would prefer you to get their Forge TV and use it with their device for maximum gaming enjoyment.

Software will support low-latency (depending on your broadband speed), upto 1080p streaming along with support up to 120FPS.

Of course, it's not a Razer product with a number of peripherals to go along side. They've got a bluetooth controller, which is strikingly similar to the Xbox 360 controller (not a bad thing) and an interesting keyboard and mouse bundle; called Turret - which is essentially a lapboard and mouse, which may prove useful for those couch PC gamers out there.

Razer plans to release Forge TV along side it's peripherals, starting in the 1st quarter of 2015, so it isn't that far away. If you're a Razer fan and interested in Android gaming, you might just want to check this out.

Prices for the Razer Forge TV start at $99,99 upto $149,99 with the controller; there isn't currently a confirmed UK price, but it will be arriving in the UK this year. For more information and specifications you can check out all the details on Razer's site.
