Sony Abandons Five Trademarks

Sony Abandons Five Trademarks

According to a post on NeoGAF, Sony yesterday abandoned five trademarks in the US including the recently released exclusive Bloodborne.

The five trademarks abandoned include four concerning computer game software and the other being linked with headphones, they can be seen below :

  • 86190942 | NO HEROES ALLOWED: NO PUZZLES EITHER!
  • 86193020 | HOW GAMES WERE MADE TO SOUND
  • 86252545 | KILL STRAIN
  • 86262151 | BLOODBORNE
  • 86265990 | GUNS UP!

The post reports that yet again, the abandonment of these trademarks is due to an administrative error, the same seen last month when The Last Guardian trademark was abandoned, stating that:

"The attorney who handled these applications was Kiphanie Radford who is no longer with Sony. If these trademarks have indeed been abandoned due to administrative error, I find it a bit strange. It's been after all more than a month since the The Last Guardian incident, I would have thought someone would have checked if other trademark applications were in jeapordy of being abandoned. Seemingly nobody bothered to do so".

It is still unknown whether this issue has been rectified, but with the release of Bloodborne earlier this week, it seems it was not important enough to hold back its launch.

Whatever is going on at Sony, it seems whoever is in charge of renewing trademarks has had a sloppy couple of months as this does not reflect well on the company as a whole.
