Ubisoft Confirm No Assassin's Creed for 2016 Days After Releasing One

In an odd move, Ubisoft have posted up a blog confirming as we reported that there will be no Assassin's Creed title released in 2016.

Assassin’s Creed Chronicles: India launched last month, Assassin’s Creed Chronicles: Russia just this week followed by Assassin's Creed Chronicles Trilogy. There is also the recently-announced smartphone-only Assassin’s Creed Identity to consider.

After gushing over Assassin's Creed: Syndicate and the upcoming Fasbender-headed Assassin's Creed movie, they end the blog by explaining their desire to return the series to greatness.

This year, we also are stepping back and re-examining the Assassin’s Creed franchise. As a result, we’ve decided that there will not be a new Assassin’s Creed game in 2016. Since the release of Assassin’s Creed Unity, we’ve learned a lot based on your feedback. We’ve also updated our development processes and recommitted to making Assassin’s Creed a premier open-world franchise. We’re taking this year to evolve the game mechanics and to make sure we’re delivering on the promise of Assassin’s Creed offering unique and memorable gameplay experiences that make history everyone’s playground.

We'll keep you posted on any further watering-down of the series, before it's return to being the premier in open-world gaming.
