Before You Buy Lies of P: Overture — Everything You Should Know
Lies of P: Overture was unleashed on players with a surprise shadow drop during Summer Game Fest, catching fans completely off guard. Dropping us into the past, this expansion invites us to explore more of Krat — but with all the praise surrounding it, you might be wondering: is Overture worth your time and money?
This is going to be a bit more of a technical look into the overall DLC rather than a hands-on review of the title — I already have a review you can check right here! In this article, we'll be tackling questions like what's included, how it fits into the story, when to play it, and if you should even get it. We're treating this as a starter guide, so there will be NO spoilers for Lies of P or the Overture in this article.
What's Included in Lies of P: Overture?

Lies of P: Overture is a DLC that feels far more like an overall expansion, or the type of titles that go off as "standalone games" nowadays. It's a pretty lengthy campaign that took me 15 hours (with even more to do and explore) that could easily stretch to 20+ hours if you spread it out.
The actual technicals are the following:
- There are eight new bosses (seven main bosses with a hidden eighth that's easy to find).
- There are four main regions to explore (Krat City Zoo, Carnival Gardens, a frozen shipyard zone, and the Monad Charity House).
- There are all-new weapons and collectibles.
- Post-post-game content (content you can unlock and access after completing the game AND completing the DLC).
- 15–20 hours of content total.
Those are the brass tacks things you need to know, but there's technically more if you're a diehard Lies of P fan. New weapons, combos, and weapon types meansthere's more to experiment with, and new armaments to take into New Game + modes that might revitalise the experience.
Also, with eight bosses to fight against, it's a welcome challenge that brings new mechanics and new patterns to master. It's overall a pretty solid package.
How Does Lies of P: Overture Fit Into the Story?

This expansion is slightly disconnected from the base game in the form that the content takes place in the past, before the main events. Though the narrative ties in and gives you some information — alongside lovable characters and more lore — it actuallydoesn't necessarily "fit" into the story; at least, not in a traditional way.
While it all connects and helps you grasp more, the base game doesn'tdepend on information from Overture, and in fact, it doesn'treally add to the base game's narrative at all. You'll learn crucial and important details, yes, but if this is your first time playing, you won't need context from Overture, and that's because...
When to Play Lies of P: Overture — Before or After the Base Game?

Lies of P: Overture is an entirely post-game expansion. You can'treally access the DLC until way later on, and you'llbe pretty much done with the base game by the time you reach it. You won't be touching, or benefitting, from Overture at all throughout your first run.
You won’t be able to access the content until the end of Chapter 9 (the base game is comprisedof 11 total chapters). Whether you kick off Overture at this point depends on your personal preferences — finishing the DLC gives you alternative events in base-game quests, but it will interrupt the narrative flow of the original experience.
Is Lies of P: Overture Worth the Price?

Priced at £24.99, Lies of P: Overture far outweighs its value by adding what feels like an extra 50% of content to the game on its own. While worth will be dependent on each player's individual take, it works as a great option to get moreLies of P while you wait for a sequel, but if you're that devoted to Krat, this won't be a question for you.
As an expansion of the narrative and gameplay as a whole, it's far more worth it than any cosmetic DLC you'll find in the wild. With the added features mentioned above, it definitely adds a lot for what you'll be paying.
Who Should (and Shouldn't) Get Lies of P: Overture

The question of whether you should or shouldn't get Lies of P: Overture is relatively simple to answer. If this is your foray into Krat and NEOWIZ's take on Pinocchio, it's easy to recommend against getting Lies of P: Overture for the time being.
The bundled price of the base game and the expansion is £74.98, which is a steep entry price for those who don't know how they feel about the base game. Overture doubles down on content from the original and feels like Lies of P 1.5, which is an excellent thing for those who loved the game, but not as grand a deal for those unsure just yet.
If you liked Lies of P and want more, Overture is a no-brainer while you wait for the sequel to drop. But if this is your first time stepping into Krat, it's worth finishing the base game first, which will take you over 30 hours, before committing to another 15+ you might never touch.
