Best Games For Next-Gen Consoles

If we got anything good out of 2020, it was the release of the brand new PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X consoles in November. Before they even hit the shelves, they sold out, and stock is already hard to find throughout the world.

If you did manage to get your hands on one of these top-of-the-line new consoles, or if you already own one of their almost-as-good predecessors, chances are you’re looking for games that really show off their best side on a technologically-advanced console. You have a range of devices to choose from if you want to play thrilling games, you’ve come to the right place. Check out our list of the best games to play on next-gen consoles:

Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla

Assassin’s Creed is something of a cult classic and you’ll be hard pressed to find a gamer who hasn’t played some version of it, on the console of their choice. The latest release in the series, Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, continues the trend we’ve seen throughout the last few iterations of the game: the expansive and awe-inspiring open-world RPG. This latest release is quite similar to the 2018 version, Odyssey, and features a massive, seemingly never-ending world that is significantly less focused on assassinations. Instead, Valhalla follows a group of Vikings as they leave their homeland of Norway to make a new life in England, and you will get to immerse yourself in their expansive world, complete with quirky features like singing battles and drinking competitions and other things that make you feel as if you are, yourself a viking! Overall, the whole open-world is just that much more realistic and immersive when played on a next-gen console.

Bugsnax

Although quite a macabre premise, this game is a lot of fun and really gives your new PS DualSense controller a chance to show you what it’s made of. It vibrates in time to the thunder on screen, and you can take photos by clicking the rear trigger. In spite of its cutesy graphics, Bugsnax is all about a little muppet-esque creature on an island that needs to catch tiny animated fast food characters in order to feed them to other residents of the island. In addition to this, you need to rebuild the island’s town and solve a variety of problems in order to do so. Although you can’t play this game on Xbox, it’s available on PC, and PS4 and 5.

DIRT 5

What would a list of cool games to play on next-gen consoles be without a racing game? Well, this one just might be one of the best-looking next-gen racing games you can get, and one that really shows off the power of your console to boot! Enjoy driving your hyper-realistic off-road car on tracks that go right around the world. The scenery is breathtaking, the weather simulation so realistic you will want to rush for your umbrella when it’s raining on screen, and you will explore and see landscapes that you would never imagine you’d travel to. DIRT 5 is available on PlayStation 4, 5, Xbox Series X, Xbox One, and PC.

Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales

imilesmoralesage3

Although only available on PS4 and PS5, it’s worth a try if you have either of these consoles. Miles Morales may be a smaller spinoff of the regular Spider-Man games, but in many ways, it’s way better than the ones that came before it. In Miles Morales, Spider-Man has way more cool powers at his disposal, including invisibility, and its gameplay and stunning visuals make it worthy of play on your next-gen console.

Yakuza: Like a Dragon

We needed a combat-based game for this list, didn’t we? And the latest Yakuza, the eighth instalment in the series, doesn’t disappoint. Like a Dragon introduces a new character, Ichiban Kasuga, and in spite of being a criminal, he is actually a giant teddy bear who means well. In this latest version in the Yakuza series, the protagonist journeys through an incredible rendering of modern-day Japan, while beating up baddies. The fights are cleaner and more technical and are supremely enhanced when played on a next-gen console. For now, Yakuza: Like a Dragon is only available on Xbox Series X, PC, PS4, and Xbox One.

Astro’s Playroom

It’s easy to play this one, because it comes bundled with your purchase of a PS5. Players enjoy exploring four weird and wonderful worlds that seem to be set inside a computer, as an adorable little robot called Astro. The game is totally worth a play (or ten) though, as it really showcases the DualSense controller. The haptic feedback enables you to feel the simulated sensation of the wind blowing, and walking on sand, while the tension of pulling the string on a bow is mimicked in an eerily realistic way.

Enjoy a world of games on your console

Although it’s so much more fun and immersive to play the latest games on your next-gen consoles, sometimes nothing hits the spot like some good old favorites. The good thing is that there are so many more new and exciting games to look forward to in 2021, and we can’t wait to see what comes out!
