Black Ops 4 Is Killing It with the Beta AD

Black Ops 4 Is Killing It with the Beta

The private beta for Treyarch’s newest instalment in the Call of Duty franchise is behind us and now we can sit down and see what all the fuss was all about. The first impressions were good despite a slew of little bugs that need fine-tuning, including a throttling Xbox One performance. Be that as it may, the Black Ops 4’s private beta event has been quite the distinguished event.

It’s not always that gamers share such exquisite account of a product that is launched for the first time, but BO4 managed to win the sympathies of even Fortnite professionals and popular streamers. The upshot, you may wonder, is that the game managed to rake in 500,000 concurrent viewers! That’s quite the stats, especially given the that Call of Duty World League Championship drew around 230,000 viewers.

As it stands, BO4 definitely has a big claim on esports and, for better or for worse, the title seems to attract sufficient interest. Developing into a fully-fledged segment of the already vital industry will allow it to spawn its own iteration of esports betting. Given the number of partnerships that have been signed between flagship teams in other games and bookmakers such as ArcaneBet, this doesn’t seem too unlikely any more.

Why Was BO4’s Beta a Success?

The game managed to elicit a positive response in gamers, but its success is hardly only contingent on the emotional reaction players had to BO4. There’s more sophistication going under the hood. Treyarch’s own efforts have definitely shown the game in a good light. Treyarch showed a lot of commitment to issuing hot fixes for some of the game’s more pressing problems  on the spot.

Naturally, some of these efforts will not become immediately visible, but the studio expects to have sorted out all possible issues by the time the game lands in October, and is later presented for its first tournament in December.

Treyarch are coincidentally handed the most responsibility of developing a product that will meet the expectations of fans and Activision/Blizzard. Acting quickly to snuff out any issue, the development studio has become known for its scrutinous attention to detail, leaving no stone unturned whatsoever.

It’s this attitude that inspired Blizzard to develop the franchise into a more streamlined esports title. It has been clearly working so far, but there are more challenges to come ahead.

Leveraging Overwatch’s Successful League Model

The future of BO4 is clearly competitive. Or why would some of Fortnite’s top-brass, including Ninja make an appearance? Some have seen this as a marketing trick, and let’s face it – where Taylor Blevins goes, his followers, well, follow. But apart from the pure speculation, there’s quite a bit more that BO4 and the developers under the aegis of Activision/Blizzard intend to make.

A league model resembling the one already introduced in Overwatch may be on the cards. By asking for a franchised model, potential investors are hoping to kill two birds with one stone. Potential investors in Overwatch and even a future franchised CoD league are now reportedly asking if their teams could hold the rights for both leagues.

This is of course not ideal, because BO4 may quickly turn into a top-heavy game and nobody is really excited to see another competitive title where the best-paid organizations bag all the titles, dislodging rookies at a frightful pace.

As Popular as Battle Royale – Only Sportier

Activision/Blizzard have been quite open about their intentions to use the success of Battle Royale titles to ensure the legacy of their own games. Black Ops 4 is coming with a BR map of its own which has already been teased.

By adopting one of the most popular genres, Black Ops is in a unique position to serve as a litmus test for upcoming instalments in the series. Naturally, Activision are not prepared to risk it all and go after a dedicated mode just yet, but it’s all in the works. The dedicated BR mode will be available with the game’s release later this year.

Black Ops 4 is definitely going to be a hit with gamers of all stripes. Treyarch are one of the best studios to have ever laid their hands on the franchise.
