DayZ Diary - Entry Three

DayZ Diary - Entry Three

Dear Diary,

I’ve hidden inside an abandoned apartment. The past hour has been an adrenaline fueled blur. I’ll try and recall it the best I can.

I began to slowly creep into the town. I could still hear some gunfire but it seemed quite distant so I thought it safe enough where I lay. Peaking over the tall grass, I could see zombies roaming freely as they searched aimlessly for meat. In that sense, I suppose we’re not that different. We’re both just trying to survive this world. I dare not think on that though. It would make the bastards harder to slaughter if I thought of them as equal.

I crawled for another hundred metres before daring another glance. I was on the outer rim of the town now and I could see a church spire looming over an array of bleak looking buildings. As I began to shuffle forwards again, I heard a sound that sent my heart into a dizzying spiral. A groan from behind me. I froze, not daring to breathe and the zombie ambled slowly towards where I lay.

Seconds felt like hours as I held my breathe and soon enough the zombie was inches from my hiding position. This is when everything went to hell. The zombie bumped into my leg and let out a cry of surprise and delight at his new found meal. I jumped out and began to run for my life, literally. Two cracks surrounded the air and the zombie fell, dead, with a smoking hole through his forehead. I dare not stop as more cracks filled the air as bullets lay all around me.

I was sprinting full out now towards the cover of the buildings as bullets, in their dozens, fell all around me as at least ten guns fired all at once, trying to hit me. Somehow, I managed to dive behind a building, but barely. A bullet managed to clip my ankle just as I dove, sending a shock of pain through my whole system. I had no time to dwell on this though as the gunfire had attracted a multitude of zombies and as I was their nearest target, they went for me.

I stumbled to my feet and began to run again, now with more than one enemy on me. In and out of buildings, through gardens, finally resting upon my current location in a bathroom on the bottom floor of an abandoned apartment. I can still hear gunfire and zombies outside as the battle for the town goes on. I don’t think anybody saw me dash in here but I can’t be sure.

The only thing that I know is that I’m still hungry, still thirsty and bleeding out. The worlds starting to lose its colour and I believe all hope is lost.

I hear the crash of waves hitting against the shore. My hands come into focus and as I look around, I realise I am alive. I am a survivor.
