Eight Tips & Tricks to Get You Started Through Duet Night Abyss
Pan Studios and Hero Games'Duet Night Abyss is officially out — this title lets players get all of the major gameplay elements, like characters and weapons, for free at no additional cost. While you'll be farming to get everything, there are a few tips to get you through your exploration of Atlasia. If you’d like to hear my thoughts on the game, you can also check out my review here!
Here are eight tips to get started in Duet Night Abyss!
#1 — Advance Quite A Bit
The tutorial is a bit long...

Duet Night Abyss is a pretty in-depth game featuring a vast narrative full of characters. The systems are so in-depth, I couldn't cover everything in my review despite rambling on for quite a while — there are creatures to collect, challenges to complete, worlds to explore...
It's daunting, and there's a lot to do, but such an in-depth game has a tutorial that, honestly, drags on for quite a while. While the narrative takes a bit to pick up, it does eventually get pretty great, and you start to unlock more mechanics to play with.
To give a spoiler-free hint as to when you should stop progressing: unlock the Friends mechanic. After that point, you'll have most things... but not all, and before you delve even further...
#2 — Level Up and Ascend Your Characters
You might need it.

Or you'll be stuck after a three-hour gameplay sequence fighting a boss for about 30 minutes... Following unlocking Friends is a section that prompts you to wait until you have enough time to complete it, but what this doesn't tell you is that this is a harder challenge than the narrative has been thus far.
This is pretty long and, honestly, mostly doable without issues — enemies are tankier, as they'll be Lv. 30, but it's nothing unmanageable. It isn't until the end of the whole sequence, the final boss of that section, that you'll feel the real pain.
This boss is Lv. 40, and though you don't take a lot of damage from it, you also deal negligible amounts that feel like nothing. I spent a massive amount of time speedrunning Carpal Tunnel Syndrome — just make sure you have a character that's at least Lv. 30 before you progress from here.
#3 — Don't Spend Your Secret Letter Clue Until You Find a Character or Weapon You Want
Before you advance.

By the time you've unlocked Friends, you should have a big chunk of characters to unlock. The Shop never unlocks new characters for you to get, so if you see someone you want to buy, save your Secret Letter Clues until you have the Rank to unlock them.
I have a pretty in-depth guide about character unlocking you can follow, where I delve into the specifics of getting the ones you want. But the general gist of the Secret Letter Clue section is that you'll need about 150 to secure a character through Covert Commissions, so make sure you have at least that much, and that's before touching on Introns.
#4 — Do Every Challenge
It'll teach you to play!

Atlasia is full of challenges that you can complete — from ones bound to the fast-travel points to others scattered across the world. It's a lot to do, but they give a bit of experience both in the Rank area and overall player expertise.
They're fun to do, and shouldn't take too long, but they'll give you valuable knowledge of the world, and some might even take you to Advenspheres you might have otherwise missed. It'sa great opportunity to explore, get acquainted with the systems, and nab a few items.
#5 — Explore EVERYWHERE
Don't use fast travel, at least not at first.

Speaking of Advenspheres and items, Duet Night Abyss has a robust crafting system that has you utilising pretty much everything you encounter. From dyes to cosmetics and important rewards, this gives you a considerable number of things to gather, and they're scattered all around the world.
My tip is simple: just get items before you need them; heading out to hunt for them can sometimes feel counterintuitive. Smash F while you're exploring the world so you can get the items before you actually need them, and even through doing this, you'll find yourself likely lacking some.
#6 — Talk to EVERYONE
Impressions and side quests aplenty.

One of my favourite mechanics in Duet Night Abyss is a dice-rolling mini-game where you modify your roll with the Impressions the world has of you. Talking to people has more than just rewards in the form of side quests, as raising your Impressions unlocks new content: from more quests to purchasable items.
The way Atlasia's citizens perceive you will gate some content, unless you're willing to spend some dice rolls until you get lucky. You technically never need impressions if you're willing to gamble, but having higher Impressions means you can more reliably unlock items, and in the case of Lunoeggy, you'll be able to unlock more cosmetics.
There's merit to talking to everyone — if you're in the world of Atlasia for the long run, you might as well invest yourself in it.
#7 — Don't Run Away from Chests
You might miss a few items.

While you're exploring Atlasia, don't do things in a rush, open the chest, and then bolt out — chances are, you might miss some of the goodies. The magnetic range is quite long, so it's unlikely you'll miss out on things, but on the off chance that you're doing it consistently, you'll find that you're hurting yourself in the long run.
Open chests and give it a little bit so that it registers that you've hung around enough and the magnet mechanic kicks in. Then you can turn around as fast as you want — don't let us stop you!
#8 — Have Fun
That's all that matters!

Finally, this is your friendly reminder to just have fun. If none of the tips really correlate with your reality, then let yourself loose and play how you want!
At the end of the day, Duet Night Abyss is a game that's begging for you to play — if you want to spend your Secret Letter Clues early to unlock the characters as quickly as possible, then that's your prerogative, and more power to you! If you're looking to stick with it in the long run, you'll have enough resources and things by the end, and no error is fatal — no gacha means you can do as you please without worrying that you've "spent" your money wrong.
