Games to Play While You Wait for Warhammer 40,000: Chaos Gate - Daemonhunters

Games to Play While You Wait for Warhammer 40,000: Chaos Gate - Daemonhunters

Are you bummed that you still have to wait for almost a month for Warhammer 40,000: Chaos Gate - Daemonhunters to finally be released on the 5th of May this year? So what will you play in the meantime? Luckily for you, I have a list of other games — some bigger releases, some indie ones — that you should check out; keep in mind these are not exactly the same as Warhammer, but should keep you busy until May.

XCOM Enemy Unknown/Enemy Within

xcom2

In XCOM: Enemy Unknown, you are the commander of a secret paramilitary group known as XCOM. As the leader of this group of soldiers, you will be at war with a race of aliens who are trying to invade and take over Earth. You will have to create a base, manage resources, research the extra-terrestrial technology and using it to your advantage, and perform a variety of combat tactics and strategies to destroy these aliens and restore peace to the planet.

The narrative in XCOM is great, I love being able to customise and name my team members; it makes things all the more tragic when they die in battle. I’m used to soldiers in games being cannon fodder where you don’t really care if they perish; but when they are named after friends and family members, it makes those deaths extra brutal. I especially enjoyed making dramatic stories about how all my friends lost their lives in battles. The Enemy Within expansion allows you to award medals to your soldiers, adds more maps, mission types, and upgrades.

Hero’s Hour

Hero’s Hour is a fast turn-based strategy RPG with real-time combat and a pixelated retro look to it. Build cities and armies, level up your heroes, and learn a huge variety of spells and skills while you explore the procedurally generated maps and all the dangers residing there. At the same time as all this, you must try to defeat your enemies before they take you down.

The game offers a huge variety of factions, heroes, and maps for a ton of replayability alongside the task of taking down the enemy AI, which won’t go down without putting up a good fight. Hero’s Hour is great for people who grew up playing 8-bit titles on the NES and want a game that is fast-paced and will challenge you.

Templar Battleforce

templar

A bit of a different choice, Templar Battleforce is a strategic combat and army-building game that has you controlling and battling the enemy in a Leviathan mech leading the Templar Knights in turn-based tactical warfare. You get to design and customise the build of equipment and talents of your Templars to create unique teams to enter battle with.

The game has 55 scenarios and multiple difficulties to choose from, so Templar Battleforce is accessible no matter your skill level. With a sci-fi style, this feels like a top-down squad-based RPG version of Warhammer

These are three different titles that will keep you busy for the next month; are there any games that we are missing from the list that people excited for Warhammer 40,000: Chaos Gate - Daemonhunters should check out? Let us know in the comment section below!
