Is Red Dead Redemption 2 Coming to the PS5?

The PlayStation 4’s game catalogue is inarguably what’s helped to make it one of the most enduring consoles of the current generation. Red Dead Redemption 2, of course, is one of the standout titles throughout the whole of the system’s run. It’s not hard to understand why so many gamers are clamouring for an upgrade!

News about the PlayStation 5 is starting to come in thick and fast, and that means new (and old titles) are beginning to sweep into the rumour mill. While anyone who prefers playing casino games online can click here, RDR2 fans might do best holding out for some exciting news in the coming weeks.

Has Take-Two Confirmed RDR2’s Return?

Take-Two, who, of course, brought the PS4 version of the game to audiences, seems to be keeping an open mind. Specifically, a recent soundbite confirmed that the studio is open to bringing back old games.

“We always leave those announcements to our labels,” studio CEO Strauss Zelnick stated, referring to the possibility of older games getting remade for new consoles. “But I’m sure there will be more in the future.”

This openness has led to mass speculation. RDR2 has been one of Take Two’s best-received titles in recent years. Many would assume it is a shoo-in for a next generation upgrade.
Not only that, but the studio already stated that they will be bringing Grand Theft Auto V to next generation consoles in 2021. There’s a precedent, which means RDR2 is by no means an impossibility for the PS5.

Is Upgrading Old Games a New Trend?

There does seem to have been an increase in older games getting next-generation upgrades in recent years. GTA V, for example, is one of the most re-launched games of all time. That, and the base version of Minecraft, which has been around for more than a decade, keeps making it to new devices.

Developers and studios working with Sony and Microsoft are not alone in this. One of Nintendo’s biggest-selling titles for the Switch console, of course, is Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. That is an upgrade from one of the best titles available for the Wii U, an otherwise underperforming console.

Therefore, studios know there’s big interest in upgrading old titles. The PS5 is going to be more powerful and more visually impressive than any of Sony’s previous devices. Therefore, playing RDR2 on a whole new level of gaming platform is likely to be very appealing to a lot of people.

Will There Be More News Soon?

As Take-Two states, it’s unlikely that the studio themselves will be pushing any specific news out soon. However, as the PS5 continues to approach, we will likely see more older titles getting the next-gen upgrades that they deserve.

Are there any PS4 titles you hope might get the PS5 treatment in time? Hold on tight – as there are bound to be some concrete, exciting announcements made in the very near future.
