Top Games Releases for September 2022
Welcome to my list of top games releasing in September. Summer is ending and autumn is right around the corner, and there are a lot of awesome-looking games coming our way. These are the five that I am most excited for — including some titles that I really should have played in the past and are now being released on the current console generation, and one that lets you unlock items in-game, no microtransactions!
The Last of Us Part 1 — 2nd of September
PS5, PC

The Last of Us Part 1 originally came out in 2013, but at the time I didn’t have a console to play it on. The game has been rebuilt for the PC and the PS5 with more realistic lighting effects and better character and environmental details that will make this a fresh experience for returning players.
I’ve heard so many good things about this game so I can’t wait to check it out before the show airs on HBO in 2023!
LEGO Brawls — 2nd of September
PS4, PS5, Xbox One, XBox X|S, Nintendo Switch, PC

Another battle game enters the ring, this time starring one of everyone's favourite toys, LEGO. The best part is that once you buy the base game there are no in-game transactions — all the weapons and cosmetic items can simply be found right in game. This is especially amazing as it seems that all these are pulled right from real-life LEGO building sets!
I can not wait to fight against up to eight other players in a free-for-all match in a themed stage based on Jurassic World. I think this is going to be a hugely popular game for obvious reasons so be sure to check it out!
Disney Dreamlight Valley — 6th of September
PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, PC

This adventure game, mixed with a life sim, features all your favourite Disney and Pixar characters. The characters live in harmony at a place called Dreamlight Valley — that is, until the Forgetting. The wonderful memories everyone had of this place were destroyed when the Night Thorns grew across the land. The inhabitants of Dreamlight Valley escaped to the Dream Castle and locked the doors.
It is up to the player to bring back the magic to the Dreamlight Valley by discovering the stories of this world and recapturing those wonderful feelings. Disney Dreamlight Valley is available in Early Access to players who have either Xbox Game Pass or purchase a Founder’s Pack; the game will be free to play when the full game launches in 2023. I can’t wait to play as my favourite Disney and Pixar characters, it will be so much fun to explore and do quests as Wall-E or Baymax!
Splatoon 3 — 9th of September
Nintendo Switch

The third entry in the super popular Nintendo Switch series, this third-person shooter has you playing as Inklings or Octolings. Both types of characters use weapons — most resembling items you would find round the house, like paint rollers — that shoot or spread
coloured ink around the stage. Splatoon 3 will add new and special weapons to the battle. Both the Octolings and Inklings can morph into their octopus or squid forms (known as swim forms) and swim through areas of the stage that are covered in ink.
The fastest way to refill your ammunition is to swim through the ink found around the stage to replenish your tank. This is faster than just walking through the ink in humanoid form. I can’t wait to try out all the new weapons that are being introduced in this game, and I’m excited to see all the other weapons we have grown to love from throughout the series make a return.
Return to Monkey Island — 15th of September
Nintendo Switch, PC

Monkey Island is one of those game series that I have heard a lot of great things about but have never had the chance to play myself. Return to Monkey Island continues the story of The Secret of Monkey Island and Monkey Island 2: Lechuk’s Revenge that had Guybrush Threepwood in a battle with zombie pirate LeChuck. Since then Guybrush has been feeling depressed and lost since he never did find the Secret of Monkey Island during his travels.
A group of young and hip new pirates led by Captain Madison have taken over Melee Island. It is up to you to reunite with old friends while you explore familiar isles, solving clever puzzles and enduring bizarre situations in an effort to save the island and get Guybrush the glory he deserves! I have heard the soundtracks for the previous games and I can’t wait to hear the incredible music that will be in this title. This is sure to be a fun game full of funny moments that I’m looking forward to finally experiencing!
It looks like the beginning of September is going to be an expensive one for me, since all the top titles that I want to check out arrive before the middle of the month! Which top games are you excited to play? Are there others that didn’t make it onto the list? I’m sure there are a lot of games that I omitted that are coming out towards the end of September. Look forward to the list for October, as I will try to track down some spooky and creepy games perfect for the Halloween season!
