Trust GXT 228 Dual Charging Dock for PlayStation 5 Review

Trust GXT 228 Dual Charging Dock for PlayStation 5 Review

As someone who plays the occasional local co-op game now and then, I know the pain of going to turn on your second controller only to find it’s dead. Thankfully, Trust is here to alleviate my first-world problem with the GXT 228 Dual Charging Dock!

In the box, you’ll find the dock and a USB-C to C cable, and it’s as simple as plugging it in and placing up to two controllers on the dock to start charging. The length of the USB cable comes in at 80 cm, meaning you’ve got plenty of room to move it around your gaming setup whilst still being connected to an active port.

As for the design, much like the GXT 255 Quick Charge Stand, this is an accessory that matches the PlayStation 5’s aesthetics wonderfully. Unlike the single DualSense charging stand, though, this one doesn’t have quite as many extra features. This is fine if you’re not interested in pretty lights, although the two LED indicators do change from red to blue to show you when the controller is good to go.

My main gripe with the GXT 228 is that it can be a little fiddly to place controllers on the docks. I found that I had to wiggle them onto it on the odd occasion in order to get the charging prongs to fit, but once connected, they’re unlikely to come loose. I say unlikely, as the stand isn’t quite as sturdy as the GXT 255, and the DualSenses can rattle around on the dock. However, this was only when I was purposely shaking the unit around to test how sturdy it was, but if you’re particularly heavy-footed, you might want to watch your step near this.

Much like the other PS5 accessories from Trust, the GXT 255 matches the style of the console really well. It doesn’t feel like the sturdiest of chargers, but for £19.99, it does its job. There is a worry of the controllers slipping off the dock and the irregular issue of the DualSense not smoothly clicking into place, though.

A useful, cost-effective accessory for gaming families; just be sure to keep it on an even surface to prevent controllers potentially falling off!
