A Slew of Star Wars Games Joins the GOG Preservation Program for May 4th Celebration

GOG's ever-important Preservation Program is a love letter to gaming of old, remembering a time before DRM limitations that now mean you could lose access to your games (see "licenses") at the whim of publishers. In the ever-growing unrest between publishers, gamers, and even launchers, it feels like consumers have few allies in the war against losing products they paid for.

While some storefronts — even the go-to choice, Steam — have opted for the necessary legal jargon to ensure you know you don't own your titles, Good Old Games takes the ever-important consumer-first stance. Selling DRM-free launchers with offline installers, GOG gives you the opportunity to own your games in a way that we've kind of forgotten should have been the norm to begin with.

Within this very same storefront, we also have the GOG Preservation Program, which promises that any games you buy that are included in this program are yours to keep and work in operating systems of the future, too. No more Windows 11 or higher woes of old titles no longer being preserved, as GOG's promise is to ensure that these games remain compatible with the latest hardware.

For May the 4th, classic STAR WARS games are joining the ever-growing list of titles available in the Preservation Program. Here were the five things included for STAR WARS Day

  • STAR WARS Dark Forces (Classic, 1995)
  • STAR WARS: X-Wing Special Edition
  • STAR WARS: Tie Fighter Special Edition
  • STAR WARS Battlefront (Classic, 2004)
  • Star Wars: Rebel Assault 1 + 2

If you'd like to check out the entire GOG Preservation Program, then don't miss out on the complete catalogue here.
