Atomic Picnic Continues Down its Early Access Path with Second Update

Developer BitCake Studio and publisher Mad Mushroom are turning around their mixed Early Access launch of Atomic Picnic. Originally released on the 7th of November 2024, the title came out to mixed reception from users but has since been adding content updates to better align to player visions of the title, slowly turning its reputation, earning Mostly Positive in just one more percent.

The first major content update brought a new character, but the second one entirely revamped the whole game, changing it to player vision and to better align with what the community has been wanting. It's a pretty major overhaul, as the team put it, "Warning: This is not a small patch."

So, what exactly changed in Atomic Picnic with the second Major Update? Here's everything you need to know:

  • Complete overhaul to balance, reworking it entirely: damage tuning, health and scaling curves revamped, player progression altered, objectives retouched, moment-to-moment combat changed to be deadlier, making the game feel more like a "fight for survival".
  • Five new evolutions to keep an eye out for, playing with combinations: Figure Skating, Instant Singularity, Interlocked Chains, Cocó, and Lotus Rhythm.
  • Two new curios: Spongeblaze and Shuriken Burst.
  • A brand-new boss: WARREN, a giant Esandworm on the City of Sands map that'll force you to dodge the terrain and adapt.
  • New map: Diamantina, bringing in a unique level layout and a new mechanic called "Abyss", which respawns you when you fall off the map at the cost of some of your HP.
  • A brand-new mechanic for Loners that lets you evolve your Loadout midway through a Picnic, radically changing your build.
  • Multiplayer stability changes to ensure the game isn't as unstable.

The list of changes is massive, and those are just the major ones. UI and UX improvements are on the list, alongside new a new miniboss, a new song, Mementos rebalance, performance improvements, and even renamed curios and evolutions. The team behind Atomic Picnic is dedicated to making this the experience that the community wants it to be, and these changes are all aimed at ensuring that.
