Bruce Lee Joins EA Sports UFC
Martial arts legend Bruce Lee will be joining the roster for EA Sports UFC, developer EA Sports announced today.
In a move that the developer felt "just made sense", EA Sports cited Lee's role in laying the groundwork for much of modern mixed martial arts as the main reason for including him in the upcoming game. Creative Director Bryan Hayes put it eloquently in EA Sports' announcement, "Why put Bruce Lee in a UFC game? It’s. Bruce. Lee…" before going on to explain that the developer is confident players "will be eager play with such a legend in the UFC Octagon."
While many of the fighters for the upcoming game were scanned specifically for EA Sports UFC, designers had to work off of an extensive archive of footage and still images to design Lee's model in the "traditional" method. UFC's team worked closely with Bruce Lee Enterprises to capture the icon as accurately as possible. The most helpful resource for designers, however, was a life-cast of Lee sent to them by the company, which "prove[d] to be the next best thing to having Bruce scanned."
Bruce Lee will be an unlockable character in the game, who becomes available after players complete the career mode on pro difficulty or higher. EA Sports UFC is set to release June 17 for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
