CD Projekt Responds to Class Action Lawsuit
CD Projekt has officially responded to the class action lawsuit filed by Rosen Law Firm (a law firm specialising in investor rights) over the launch of Cyberpunk 2077. The official response from CD Projekt S.A. states that the company will "undertake vigorous action to defend itself" from allegations that it made "false and/or misleading statements" about the reality of the Cyberpunk 2077 product, and that "investors suffered damages" from the resulting effects.
The lawsuit, filed on the 24th December, seeks to "recover damages for CD Projekt investors" following the game's poor performance at launch and the unprecedent industry fallout resulting from it. It follows a series of controversial reactions from major companies in the gaming industry, including Microsoft, Sony, CD Projekt itself and physical retailers offering 'no questions asked' refunds for the product as well as Sony removing the game from the PlayStation Store.
The outcome of this lawsuit could set a new precedent for AAA marketing and developer-player communication going forward. Expect more developments soon.
