Channel 4 Looking to Reboot Classic TV Show GamesMaster

Channel 4 Looking to Reboot Classic TV Show GamesMaster

Cult classic TV show GamesMaster could be coming back to UK screens with an all-new series, Channel 4 has revealed. In a recent call for sponsorships, the UK-based channel announced it was "exploring rebooting the cultural phenomenon GamesMaster" on E4 as a "social first show", incorporating celebrities, challenges and "extra gaming-themed content".

The show is planned to feature both retro games and new releases, with all proceedings watched over by the all-powerful GamesMaster. In the past, the eponymous Master was played by Sir Patrick Moore, and the show was hosted by Dominik Diamond (as well as Dexter Fletcher for one season). The choice of host or GamesMaster has not been confirmed for this reboot.

Not much else is known about the proposed reboot, except for how it will aim to weave itself into social media, with potential social segments including:

  • The Contender
  • Meet The Gamer
  • Gaming Odessey
  • GamesMaster trailers
  • Speed Runs
  • Extended Play-throughs
  • New release previews
  • Tips from the GamesMaster
  • Gaming news

The original GamesMaster ran from 1992 to 1998 on Channel 4. It also centred around challenges, albeit with non-celebrity contestants who were competing for the coveted GamesMaster Golden Joystick. At the very least, Channel 4 also looks to be bringing back that most iconic accolade.

Pre-production is reportedly underway for the GamesMaster reboot, which (assuming all goes to plan) will air on E4.
