Cyberattack Deals Blow to CD Projekt RED

An unknown party has targeted Cyberpunk 2077 publisher CD Projekt and its development studio CD Projekt RED in a cyberattack. As well as encrypting the company's servers, the hackers are threatening to release its games' source codes as well as send a variety of its legal documents to journalists if it doesn't "come to an agreement" with the hackers.

CD Projekt RED has responded (tweet shown below), releasing the hacker's ransom note to the public and stating that it will "not give in to the demands nor negotiate with the actor". No consumer information is believed to have been compromised. The company is already working with law enforcement and the relevant authorities to secure the data and bring the culprit or culprits to justice.

The hacking party's demands are not clear, although it is claiming that the information it holds will cause the company's stock to plummet and consumers to lose yet more faith in the company.

CD Projekt RED has come under intense scrutiny in recent months following the controversy-laden launch of Cyberpunk 2077. There's no denying that the game is flawed, but that is absolutely no justification for a crime like this, and we sincerely hope that this situation is resolved with minimal harm done to consumers and the individuals at CD Projekt.
