CD Projekt Red’s highly anticipated Cyberpunk 2077 hasn’t even been released yet, and an anime tie-in series has already been announced for a 2022 release, titled CYBERPUNK: EDGERUNNERS.
There aren’t any plot details available at the time of writing, however, there are a few key pieces of production information. Firstly, the series will be another Netflix exclusive anime. What’s more surprising is that it’s being animated by the acclaimed Studio Trigger, who is known for series’ such as Kill la Kill and Darling in the Franxx.
The director behind the series is none other than Hiroyuki Imaishi, who got his start working as an animator on the now-iconic Neon Genesis Evangelion, later going on to direct the massively popular Gurren Lagann as well as the aforementioned Kill la Kill. Silent Hill composer Akira Yamaoka is another notable talent involved in this project, so if nothing else, expect CYBERPUNK: EDGERUNNERS to have a world-class presentation in its audio and visuals.
Cyberpunk 2077 is set to release 19th November 2020 for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC, with PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and Stadia releases being scheduled for a later date.
