DayZ Alpha Sells Over 400k And Sets Out Future Plans
DayZ, the zombie apocalypse action game, has sold over 400,000 copies since its release on 16th December 2013. Currently still in an alpha state, the game has seen user count peek at over 40,000.
So far three updates have already been released for the game and creator Dean "Rocket" Hall has outlined plans for feature roll outs throughout 2014. It has always been stressed that the game is a true alpha with developers going on record to say
I really can't emphasize enough - this is going to be an early access project on steam. It's a true-blue alpha. Massive areas of the engine were entirely reworked, involving a large team of people over the last 12 months.
Much of what these achievements will enable won't be seen for many months - so I really plead for anyone who is on the fence to take a skeptical approach - watch streams, read reviews, watch some let's play and form your opinion. You could always come back to the game in three, six months time and buy it then.
The Alpha state clearly hasn't put off huge numbers of Steam users flocking to be a part of the action. For those already playing the latest post from the official DayZ forums outlines the changes users can expect to see in the new few weeks. At a glance the following features have been announced:
More Zombies - Ongoing
Multithreaded Server - Early 2014 onwards
Respawning Zombies and Loot - Early 2014
Server Management Options - Ongoing
Animals & Hunting - Early 2014
Additional Anti Hack and Security Updates - Late 2013 onwards
Cooking and Gathering Resources - Early 2014
More information about these can be found in the original post on the forum.
