Dead by Daylight Ventures Into Silent Hill for its Latest DLC Offering

Dead by Daylight is certainly no stranger to mingling with other horror universes: Evil Dead, Halloween, Stranger Things, Saw, Nightmare on Elm Street and more have all found their way into the Dead by Daylight DLC roster in the past. Never before has a horror game franchise found its way on to the game's lineup, however... until now. Behaviour Interactive and Konami are teaming up to bring elements of Silent Hill into Dead by Daylight for its upcoming DLC. Take a look at the reveal trailer above.

Releasing June 2020, the Silent Hill DLC will add a new map, Midwich Elementary School; a new killer, Pyramid Head; and a new survivor, Cheryl Mason (also known as Heather Mason). All of these are iconic parts of the Silent Hill franchise and make excellent additions to the already extensive lineup of cinematic horror characters and locations present in Dead by Daylight. Plus, now the floodgates have been opened for other gaming horror franchises to enter Dead by Daylight's world. The future could bring a Resident Evil DLC, for example. Mr. X, Leon S Kennedy and the Police Station would make for a superb Resident Evil 2 crossover.

It is seriously unfortunate that this is the first appearance of Silent Hill in a videogame series since 2012 outside of Japanese Pachislot machines and the cancelled, near-legendary Silent Hills project. Reportedly being developed with Hideo Kojima and Guillermo Del Toro at the helm, its playable teaser (PT for short) is still lauded as one of the finest little gaming horror experiences ever created, even six years after its release and subsequent removal from digital storefronts.

It's sad that Silent Hill is largely a dormant franchise now, but at least it stands to make a solid addition to Dead by Daylight's four-versus-one asymmetrical horror gameplay.

The Silent Hill DLC is available now on the public test build for PC. Its official launch on PC and consoles is 16th June.
