Deep Dive Into Aliens: Dark Descent’s Tactical Campaign With New Gameplay Trailer
Focus Entertainment and Tindalos Interactive are giving us an in-depth look at the narrative, protagonists, and squad-based mechanics of Aliens: Dark Descent with a new gameplay overview trailer linked above. If you’re planning to pick up this sci-fi title, give it a watch, as it features all you need to know before you take on your role as commander.
Due to launch next month, this real-time action game will drop you into the persistent, reactive world of the iconic Alien franchise. After crash landing on a backwater planet known as Lethe, you’ll have to manage your resources, make strategic decisions, and keep your Marines alive as you fight deadly Xenomorphs across expansive and reactive levels.
During combat, you’ll manage your squad as a single unit, a main mechanic heavily showcased in the new trailer. Dark Descent’s “Squad Behavior System” ensures that your Marines react intelligently to your orders on the field. And whether you’re a newcomer to real-time combat systems or find the Xenomorphs overwhelming your squad, you can slow down time to execute planned tactical decisions in order to survive. If (or when) a Marine dies, you’ll have to live with the consequences since they are permanently gone once they fall in combat.
Your behaviours and actions will affect each run as the Xenomorphs learn and adapt. Clearing objectives will test your combat skills and resource management as you use your squad’s array of equipment, from flamethrowers to sentry guns, to defeat your foes. There are five classes of Marines available with dozens of specialisations, unique abilities, and weapons, so you can craft the best team for survival. Keeping your Marines sane is also important, which means you’ll be managing the health and stress levels of your squad during expeditions. Afterwards, you’ll return to your ship to heal, recruit Marines, research, and develop new technology.
Dive into an original Alien story when Aliens: Dark Descent launches on the 20th of June 2023. It will be available to play on the PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store. Digital and retail pre-orders are open for all platforms.
