Desura and Indie Royale Parent Company Goes Bankrupt

Lisa Morrison, head of developer relations at Bad Juju, confirmed to Gamasutra that she has learnt of the bankruptcy of the company.

“I asked Tony [Novak, CEO of Bad Juju] for confirmation and all he could tell me was, ‘The lawyers have said I can't say anything or answer any questions yet, but yes it's true.’”

The company purchased Desura, the indie gaming service similar to Steam, from Linden Lab only last year, after it itself had owned it for one year.

This news comes just a week after a post to the Desura blog addressing concerns over developers not being paid. In the post, was written the following:

  • Desura is not going out of business, we are not in financial crisis. We are moving forward and actively working toward partnerships and opportunities for growth.
[...]
Our vision is very clear, and Desura 2.0 is going to be a reality. I have given our dev team the wishlist from developers and players both, and the list of features going into it is both impressive and comprehensive. In short, we have heard all of the feedback on the ways in which improvement is needed, and those pleas are being answered.

So it seems that this really did come out as a surprise to all concerned.

Luckily Humble business developer Dave Traeger took to Twitter:

So at least there is light at the end of the tunnel if you have been affected by the bankruptcy.

Have you been affected by Bad Juju's bankruptcy?
