Disclosure of "Loot Boxes" Required in App Store by Apple Guidelines

Given the recent controversies and escalating state of "loot boxes", it seems like Apple has taken note and issued their stance with the latest update to their App Store Guidelines regarding In-App Purchases:

Apps offering “loot boxes” or other mechanisms that provide randomized virtual items for purchase must disclose the odds of receiving each type of item to customers prior to purchase.

Whether or not Apple will enforce it is currently in the air, but given how open they are to accepting apps how enforced it may be is the important question to ask. Whilst not all games in the store do this already, some games that are already in the Eastern market such as Shadowverse and Love Live School Idol Festival already do this.

Apple may only highlight games if they follow the guideline's requirements for "Loot Boxes". That or companies will try and side step this bit of guidelines and do what Activision Blizzard has already done with Hearthstone and Overwatch in China to avoid their laws regarding disclosure of "loot boxes" by rewarding you based on your purchase of in-game currency. What do you think will happen next? Leave a comment below.
