EA to Remove Online Services from Older Games

EA has revealed that it intends to shut down online services for a huge list of it's older titles. Some of these titles are as a result of Gamespy's earlier announcement that it will end all hosted services effective 31 May 2014. Many games including EA titles such as Battlefield 2, Battlefield 1942 and Command & Conquer have relied on Gamespy for multiplayer hosting for some time now. Other titles are being retired due to their age, lack of patronage and replacement with newer versions.

While some of the games facing disconnection are understandable, such as the now 12 year old Neverwinter Nights, some more recent titles are a bit more surprising such as Crysis 2 which is only 3 years old, but currently only the PC version seems to be affected. Other titles that are to lose online functionality include Battlefield 2142, Crysis and Neverwinter Nights 2 for PC, Bejewelled 2 for Wii and Bulletstorm 3 for PlayStation 3.

The titles in question will be disconnected from 30 June 2014 and you can see the full list here. So if there's anything on the list you would like to play online for one last time, you have until then!

His skill mostly resides in talking a good game. Legend has it he once hit somebody on Call of Duty but no evidence has been found.
