Epic Games to Acquire Fall Guys Developer Mediatonic

Epic Games to Acquire Fall Guys Developer Mediatonic

Epic Games has acquired the Tonic Games Group, parent company of Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout developer Mediatonic, it was announced via the Epic Games Store Newsroom today. The company joins Psyonix as another independent studio to be taken under Epic Games' wing.

The agreed sum of the acquisition is not yet known. What has been confirmed is that it will not directly impact the current state of Fall Guys on any platform. The game will remain on every platform it is currently available on, and all plans for ports of the game (Switch and Xbox, for example) are still going ahead.  Mediatonic assures players, in a Q&A accompanying the announcement, that it will not lose touch with the community, stating: "We’ll stay super close with you, continue to chat with you in the same open and honest way, and continue to take on all of your suggestions and feedback."

The future for Fall Guys is also teased in the Q&A. It outlines features present in Rocket League and Fortnite—such as account systems, cross-play and squad vs squad modes—which could soon make their way to Mediatonic's non-violent battle royale.

Mediatonic's penchant for outlandish games like Hatoful Boyfriend and Murder by Numbers isn't going anywhere either, according to Mediatonic's Q&A. Dave Bailey, Tonic Games Group Co-Founder and CEO, said: "we often say that ‘everyone deserves a game that feels like it was made for them.’ With Epic, we feel like we have found a home that was made for us."

In addition to Mediatonic, the Tonic Games Group owns publisher The Irregular Corporation, developer Fortitude Games and games development education community Tonic U.
