Exposure Announcement Trailer Shows Off Valve's Own "F-STOP" Concept

LunchHouse, an independent developer, has reached out to Valve and recieved explicit permission to create a game with the F-STOP mechanics that were initially to feature in Portal 2, but were scrapped at some point in development. This new game, titled Exposure, prefers the official name of "Aperture Camera" in place of F-STOP, but the concept and code for the original idea remains unchanged.

Not many details have been released about LunchHouse's work on the project, short of a teaser trailer (shown above) that introduces the basic uses of Aperture Camera. In the trailer, the player is shown to snatch objects from the environment with a traditional handheld camera and re-place them elsewhere in the level at an adjusted size and/or positioning. Despite the concept's origins in the Portal series, it's unclear whether this new game is set in the same universe. It's confirmed that the game is in production with Valve's blessing and the trailer does feature cubes with Portal's fictional "Aperture Laboratories" logo, so there are signs that the game could be a literal successor to Portal, not just a spiritual one.

F-STOP has been a source of debate and investigation among Valve fans for years, LunchHouse assures fans regarding this by stating: "The mechanics are not based on speculation or heresay. Instead, Exposure uses the original, official code from Valve's own F-STOP". Exposure may not be an official Valve product, but it's certainly using the official elements of Valve's scrapped work.

No release date or platform has been confirmed for Exposure, it's evidently in very early development. This should be a fascinating project to follow over the coming months and years however.
