Fan-favourite PBE Mode Finally Returns to League of Legends After Nearly 10 Years

League of Legends has been trying out new game modes for a very long time, and fan-favourite ones have sometimes been scrapped due to numerous reasons. From Twisted Treeline to Dominion, there have been all sorts of queues disabled, never to be seen again...

...or maybe?

In the latest Dev Update in the official League of Legends YouTube channel, Riot Games officially announced the return of one of the most highly-requested game modes: Doom Bots. Released in 2015 and last seen in 2016, Doom Bots supercharges characters and places the summoner in a defensive position, forcing you to survive at all costs against impossible odds.

Doom Bots was beloved by many because of the ridiculous power and impossible odds. From Lux firing a nearly 360 laser that's all too hard to dodge to enormous ultimates and ridiculous abilities, it was just unhinged fun at its finest, as it didn't pit players against players.

Doom Bots is set to be the next featured game mode in League of Legends, which each season sees at least one of (with the previous one being Brawl). The new one is going to have massive amounts of changes, featuring harder variations for those who wanted a tougher challenge and all-new doom bots joining in on the fun.

The final boss has also been replaced, as Teemo is out and Veigar comes in. This change is inspired by what Riot Games has learned in terms of boss designing thanks to their Swarm game mode a while back, and its a development philosophy they're going to take throughout the entire game mode.

From new mini challenges (like every bot having Veigar's passive) to new enemies, Doom Bots is back and bigger than ever. It will be available in patch 25.17, which will launch on the 27th of August 2025.
