Five Year Old Discovers Xbox Security Hole

Five Year Old Discovers Xbox Security Hole

When the parents of Kristopher Hassel set up a password to keep the more gory games away from their  child they were doing things right. It's what the parental controls are there for afterall. What they didn't count on was little Kristopher being able to bypass the password.

After incorrectly enter his father's password the Xbox took him to a verification screen, after that the log-in screen would bring up a second password verification screen.

Kristoffer discovered that if he simply pressed the space bar to fill up the password field, the system would let him in to his dad's account. His father, who works in security, reported the vulnerability which has since been fixed and as a reward Kristoffer's name now appears on a page set up to thank people who have discovered problems with Microsoft products. The Redmond Washington company also gave him four free games, $50, and a year-long subscription to Xbox Live Gold.
