Former Director of Rainbow Six Patriots Announces The Church In The Darkness

Richard Rouse III, former director for Rainbow Six Patriots is now operating his own development studio Paranoid Productions. Today, the studio has announced The Church In The Darkness, described as a top-down action-infiltration game, based in the 1970s about infiltrating a South American cult.

Collective Justice Mission, the cult is led by Isaac and Rebecca Walker voiced by John Patrick Lowrie (Team Fortress 2) and real life wife Ellen McLain (Portal's GLaDOS). Leading thier followers through a PA system, the couple can be heard at times throughout the game as they determine the best path for their people.

Richard Rouse III states "We’re pushing the concept of dynamic narrative a step further: The personalities of leaders Isaac and Rebecca Walker will also change with each playthrough, leaving the player to try to figure out their true motivations… and whether they are dangerous or not. When we hear about “cults,” we tend to hear about apocalyptic groups that end badly, but there are plenty of radical, non-conformist movements that don’t go wrong – that just choose to live their lives differently. We may find them strange, but it’s their choice to live how they want. Both good-intentioned and more sinister groups often appear much the same on the surface. What’s cool about telling this story through a replayable game is that players get to see more sides to the story of the Collective Justice Mission."

Players will take on the role of Vic, an ex-law enforment officer, looking for his nephew who has joined the cult. Finding documents and letters scattered throughout the camp will begin to show the true nature of the camp, Freedom Town.

There are several ways to play the game, whether it be avoiding detection completely, using non-lethal methods or taking out everyone.  Whichever way the player plays, they will reap the benefits or suffer the consequences of those choices.

The Church In The Darkness is under development for the PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One, and is scheduled for release in early 2017.

It was cancelled so that they could focus on Rainbow Six Siege.

It may suck, but Patriots most likely wouldn't have lived longer and/or have a lasting impression on the gaming industry than Siege has done. If I had to choose between them, I'd pick the one that helped get personalities like TheRussianBadger famous.
