GameTrailers.com Closes Their Doors After 13 Years

Gametrailers.com, an iconic and leading videogame trailer content site has announced that they will no longer be operating and have uploaded their last content as of yesterday.

Gametrailers.com (GT) began operations in 2002, when most content on the internet was text and static images. YouTube, Twitch and other video content sites were not even thought of yet, GT was one of the first to host videogame trailers daily. GT leading the way, trailers, reviews and much more through video, dominants how gamers receive their daily news and information today.

The company has changed hands several times throughout the years, with MTV purchasing the company from the founders in 2005. In 2007, MTV spun GT, SpikeTV.com, Spike.com and Xfire all into Spike Digital Entertainment. Then in June 2014, GT was once again sold to Defy Media, their current parent company.

According to a post on the sites forums, all editors were either laid off or fired as of yesterday. What will happen with the site as a whole still remains to be seen, so fans can still participate in the forums.

We have reached out to Defy Media, but as of press time we had not received a response.
