Garry's Mod Turns 15

Garry's Mod Turns 15

This December (the 24th specifically), marks the 15th anniversary of the Source Engine sandbox Garry's Mod's initial release. Since its graduation from a mod to a full release in 2006, the game has consistently sat around the top of Steam's "best seller" charts, with 15 Million copies sold and 1.5 million pieces of user-created content produced for the game's Steam Workshop platform.

Garry Newman, the creator of Garry's Mod and founder of Facepunch Studios, expresses his surprise at the overwhelming and continued success of the game when he states: “It’s still hard for me to believe that what started off as simply having fun playing around with Half-Life 2 has turned into a proper career spanning 15 years”.

To celebrate the anniversary and this festive season, Facepunch is running a "12 Days of Christmas" event on its blog, taking a look back at some of its favourite user-created Garry's Mod videos. Garry Newman's "End of Year" blog post next week will also feature a more personal reflection on the last "15 years of weirdness".

That's not all however: on Steam, a Facepunch Publisher Sale is running from 16th-19th December which will see all four Facepunch titles (Garry's Mod, RUST, Chippy and Clatter) receiving a 33% discount. An extra 10% off will be granted to customers who buy the publisher's entire collection in its brand-new four-game bundle.

RUST players won't even be left out. For a limited time, they will have access to the "Garry's Mod Toolgun" within RUST. It functions like a regular in-game hammer; so can be used to repair or upgrade structures.

Garrys Mod is available on Steam for PC, Mac and Linux; it still recieves regular updates. The Facepunch Publisher Sale will run from 16th-19th December on the Steam Store.
