Highlights From Gabe Newell's Reddit Ask Me Anything

Valve Corporation co-founder Gabe Newell recently appeared in an "Ask Me Anything" thread on Reddit answering questions from fans.

Highlights included Newell addressing his internet stardom, stating that "it's entertaining for my friends". He also addressed what improvements we can expect from the Source 2 engine, said that his favourite non-Valve videogame was Mario 64 and gave some more information on the Valve VR headset.

The most upvoted post came from a Reddit poster who was involved in uncovering the Half-Life 2 hackers from 2003 which caused delays to the title who asked for more behind the scenes insight on the investigation from the Valve side of things, this was Newell's response:

Thanks, presidentjim/Gtwy for all of your help. We still remember your site about the leak as an invaluable resource. Weren't we directly in touch with you, back then? Obviously we were working closely with the FBI during that time, but they could not share with us which sources led to the arrest, and which ones didn't. From what we could tell, though, you guys were doing far more to uncover Ago than anything the Feds could do. We think it was one of the first cases in which the authorities were humbled by what a community of motivated people on the Internet can do. Edit: Thanks to Xemo, too.
