Hitman 2 Announced

With E3 just around the corner, leaks and game announcements have been coming out on a daily basis. Today, WB Games and IO Interactive in Copenhagen came together in a livestream with IGN to announce something many have been hoping for. Yup, you guessed it (and the title of this article kind of gives it away): Hitman 2

Buckle up! There’s a lot of information to unpack here. But don’t worry, we took notes! This will be a direct sequel to Hitman from 2016. The team at IO Interactive have been working hard to make sure that fans wouldn’t have to wait another ten years for the next installment. IO also stated that they are working to make multiple games that will all link together. Unlike past titles, Agent 47 has a team around him now, and we may even get to look into 47’s past.

The first level will take place in Miami where the Innovation Race, a Grand Prix style event, is taking place. Agent 47 has two targets to take out, and one of which is a race car driver who is intent on taking first place for the third year in a row. The crowd is in the thousands, and how does one take out a race car driver? Well that’s where some new fun features come into play.

Sure you can take some of the expected routes. Disable the car somehow, plant explosives perhaps, or even snipe the driver from afar. Or you could get really creative. Want to drown the driver in a toilet? Go for it! Want to dress up and sneak around to find other fun options rather than the traditional ones, feel free. Hell, who doesn’t love a bald man dressed up as a giant goofy flamingo! And even better, you can now hide in crowds to dodge people looking for you along with other updated stealth mechanics.

So what else can Agent 47 use to carry out his tasks? Use your imagination! Think Dead Rising without the zombies, as one of the devs stated “everything in the environment can be deadly in the hands of Agent 47.” By everything, they mean: fire extinguishers, a statue bust, measuring tape, water bottles… a fish. Not kidding, and the first thing we thought of was that Monty Python’s “Fish Slapping Dance” has become lethal.

At launch, Hitman 2 will have new modes along with the base game. Among these modes is Sniper Assassin. This will be a solo venture or online co-op with two additional characters. Yup, online co-op, we didn’t accidentally write that. Don’t worry, though, we aren’t going the route of Call of Duty here, the main game will be solo.

The two characters in addition to Agent 47 are Stone and Night and both come with special abilities. Stone is equipped with shockwave ammo, and Night can shoot through objects and walls. In the Sniper Assassin mode, there will be three targets. It will take place at a wedding and apparently ties back to something in the lore of Hitman. You will want to take out the targets as well as their bodyguards and stay undetected.

In this mode you’ll be able to mark targets for your partner to see and still use the environment to achieve your goal. Shoot down a chandelier, blow up a speaker, feel free to be creative. The scope of the rifle looks very nice and very steady with what looks like one additional zoom that is one click rather than gradually zooming as most games seem to do these days.

So how does one get to play Sniper Assassin? Good news, everyone, it’s already out! There’s a catch, though. Pre-order Hitman 2 and you will gain instant access to this new mode, no waiting involved (except for installing it of course).

Lastly, there will be easter eggs. Be on the lookout for rubber duckies and garden gnomes in the levels as well as level-specific challenges. This game sounds action packed and looks beautiful from the trailers and gameplay. Hitman 2 is currently scheduled for release the 13th of November and will be available on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. Remember, you want to get a fix in immediately? Pre-order to get that new mode so you can at least start to get a feel for what the new game has in store for you. Happy Sniping!
