How Often Will 2XKO Seasons Change and Champions Release?

2XKO is officially out to the wider world, giving players the opportunity to start their journey across the fighting game of Runeterra. With a launch roster of 11 champions, many have been wondering how quickly this will grow, as it's noticeably smaller than some of the other games in the genre, such as Street Fighter and Mortal Kombat.

Thankfully, Riot Games has been quite vocal about their plans for 2XKO, and we've received a lot of information regarding when we can expect new champions to launch. Here's what we know about the seasonal changes and the champion releases!

The Early Access period for 2XKO launched on the 7th of October, and it's being called "Early Access" (despite not being on Steam) because the team is trialling things, learning from the community, and embracing "Season 0" for the time being. This Season, then, will last through the end of 2025, so not many big changes will be coming from October to January, but once 2026 rolls around, things will start moving as planned.

Every year will have five Seasons, meaning that each Season will last about 10 weeks — this comes with a new Battle Pass, a new stage, and, yes, a new champion. With 171 characters available in League of Legends at the moment, Riot Games has a wide range of characters to pick from, with even more launching, as League of Legends has embraced a three-seasonal year with three new champions.

What this means for 2XKO is that the roster will be growing by five champions every year, though this is obviously subject to change. It wouldn't be the first time Riot Games adjusts their release schedules to accommodate for more or less content throughout the year, or the occasional Rakan & Xayah happenings where two champions come at once (and let's be real, we'd riot if they separated our Vastayan duo).

Season 0 of 2XKO is available until the end of 2025 on Windows PC.
