How to Play Oculus Rift Exclusives on the HTC Vive
With the launch of two competing VR units in the space of two months, potential customers were going to have to make a choice as to whether to get themselves an Oculus Rift or an HTC Vive. The two are not that dissimilar in terms of hardware, although some may say that the Vive has the edge with its location detection beacons and external camera. As with any gaming device though, the software is what makes the difference. Oculus have managed to get themselves a few exclusive titles and those may have helped make up some people's mind. That exclusivity hasn't lasted all that long though. Just a week from the launch of the Vive and Reddit user CrossVR decided they wanted to get in on those games. To enable this, they wrote and shared a piece of code that allows the use of Oculus' store and games on HTC's device.
With the software in an Alpha state, it may not function on all games, but initial user reports are generally positive. Oculus themselves are not happy, with a spokesperson for the company reaching out to tech website Arstechnica:
"It is a hack, and we don't condone it. Users should expect that hacked games won’t work indefinitely, as regular software updates to games, apps, and our platform are likely to break hacked software." Company founder Palmer Luckey contrasted this however by saying "If customers buy a game from us, I don't care if they mod it to run on whatever they want."

Makes me wonder if the same will be true of PSVR and use on PC

Sony have actually said that they're not entirely averse to making it PC compatible, just not at launch.

I heard this, and if they're sensible and want to sell all the units, they put out a PC version at about the same price or lower if they can as the Oculus, bundle the headset with whatever cameras it needs to do tracking and say "If your PC isn't quite good enough for proper VR, this works with a PS4 so it'll probably work with your 8 year old laptop" and make all the money.
Plus, if it's possible I give the modding community exactly 36 minutes before they've got three different ways of doing it on release :D
