Japanese Man Keeps SNES Powered on for 20 Years to Keep Saved Game
Twitter user Wanikun is more than just your average fan of SNES RPG Umihara Kawase. He's been technically playing the same game session for 20 years now! See, back in the 90s there wasn't the flash RAM that we have now, so cartridge games were protected by a battery back up in the cartridge itself. This hardcore fan didn't want to run the risk of losing his game though, so he decided to simply leave his SNES switched on. 20 years later, it's still on.
It has been turned off once, when he moved house. Thankfully , the battery backup was fine and he didn't lose his game, but now it's back on and waiting for more playtime, although if Wanikun's Twitter is anything to go by, he's more of a Vita fan these days.
SFC電源入れっぱなしは耐久性(と電気代)の問題だけど、20年以上現役プレイヤーであり続けたというのはなかなか感慨深いわけでして。 ということで昨日までの最新作と初代のツーショット #海腹川背 pic.twitter.com/DzbWQOiXj6
